(MRCRC), the University of Karachi had organized a number of one-day seminars and short
course on the "Awareness of Sea".
In February 1998, NIO organized a three-day short course on "Sequence
Stratigraphy". This course was conducted by a renowned geoscientist Dr. Bilal U. Haq,
Director of Marine Geosciences Programme, Division of Ocean Sciences, National Science
Foundation USA. This course was planned for the researchers, lecturers, students and
professionals. The main objective of the course was to introduce the concepts of Sequence
Stratigraphy to geologistis/geophysicists. This significant aspect of geology is a prime
tool for the exploration of hydrocarbon (oil and gas). About 45 participants of twenty
organizations have attended the course.
One-day seminar on Gas Seeps and Climate Research was also organized by NIO. This
seminar was held on 4th May 1998. The main theme of this seminar was to highlight the main
