Briefings on the 1998 International Year of the
Ocean have been arranged in France, India, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Sweden and
United Kingdom and these were often followed by coverage on the IYO by national press.
Promotional material:
We are grateful to organizations and Member
States who have started the development of promotional material. Special thanks goes to
the United Kingdom for providing the 'IYO Flags' which will be hoisted on masts of vessels
which will undertake IYO cruises, and to the 'Seven Tenths' company of the United Kingdom
for creating T-shirts commemmorating the 1998 International Year of the Ocean. A
15-minute video is being commissioned to commemorate the IYO.
