3. MECHANISM FOR NATIONAL COORDINATION OF GOOS

After the Nairobi meeting, I made a proposal to my Executive Director for the setting up of a National GOOS Coordinating Committee. The proposal still awaits action though there is much hope that it will 'fly'.

 

4. MEMBERSHIP OF AND CONTRIBUTION TO REGIONAL GOOS BODIES.

Member of GOOS-AFRICA. Only meaningful contribution is attendance at the Nairobi meeting.

 

5. NATIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO GOOS IMPLEMENTATION

Planned setting up of a National GOOS Coordinating Committee. I understood that The Gambia had once been supplied with a GLOSS tidal gauge in the mid nineties. It is rather unfortunate that this gauge cannot be traced in any form probably due to changes in administration in the recent years.

 

6. CAPACITY BUILDING IN SUPPORT OF GOOS OR GOOS-RELATED RESEARCH

None

 

7. IMPEDIMENTS TO PROGRESS

· Low level of government awareness and commitment

· Low level of capacity in the GOOS activity areas, especially in  remote sensing and modeling.

 

8. INDICATIONS OF FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO GOOS
