The Intergovernmental Sessions of IOCARIBE

The Sub-Commission should meet once during each budgetary biennium unless otherwise approved by a governing body of IOC. These are inter-governmental meetings or Sessions, attended by official delegates of Member States (Category II - Intergovernmental meetings other than international conferences of States, at which the chief participants represent their Governments). The Sub-Commission should preferably meet immediately before the IOC Assembly in order to report on its progress and to obtain feedback and endorsement especially for actions requiring budget allocations.

Membership and participation.    ¯

Twenty three (23) of the twenty nine (29) independent States in the IOCARIBE Region are Members of IOC and IOCARIBE. Membership of an independent State implies membership of its dependant territories. Membership in IOCARIBE is open to all interested IOC Member States willing to participate actively in the work of the regional Sub-Commission.

However, membership in the regional Sub-Commission is not automatically assumed. States shall acquire membership by notifying their intention to the Secretariat of IOC and IOCARIBE. This declaration should be made by a high governmental level i.e.: Foreign Affairs Minister or equivalent. It should be confirmed in practice by the appointment of a specific National Focal Point.

Membership does not represent any mandatory financial burden for the State, only the commitment to participate in IOCARIBE activities. After becoming a Member, the State is expected to participate in the regular inter-governmental Sessions of the Sub-Commission and in the Regional Projects through its national institutions and experts.
