The National Oceanographic Committee (CON) is delighted to announce that the 5th Congress on Marine Sciences, MARCUBA´2000 will be held from 4 to 8 December, 2000 at Havana's International Conference Center, Cuba.
"For a more integrated management of marine and coastal resources" will be the central motto that the Marcuba´2000 Organizing Committee proposes, with a suggesting list of novel, updated topics in the field of marine sciences and an attractive scientific program for participants.
With the purpose of increasing the quality and scientific content of the event, we will count on the presence of outstanding national and international personalities that are distinguished for their important contributions in the field of marine researches.
From Cuba, the largest of the Caribbean Antilles, we are pleased to extend a warm and cordial invitation to share the scientific dialogue and at the same time enjoy the kindness of our climate, our cultural expressions and the welcoming affection toward our visitors.

The Congress is expected to be attended by specialists, officials and executives from scientific and service institutions, universities, governmental bodies and organizations, non governmental organizations, international and national cooperation agencies related to the sea world and by representatives of the private and industrial sectors.

Spanish and English.
Structure of the Scientific Program:
The Scientific Program will be developed in the modalities of keynote conferences, round tables, free topics (poster, videos and oral presentations). Poster is suggested as the most appropriate modality for the presentation of free topics. The Organizing Committee will select the most relevant free topics to be presented orally.

Biological and population studies: design, methodology and results. Systems and methods for the effective handling of marine mammals. Preventive and healing clinical and veterinary attentions. Training techniques and regime of activities.
Practical experiences in the development and application of new methodologies for marine environmental education. Environmental perception of the society in general and coastal populations in particular. The role of aquariums and museums in marine environmental education and management of biodiversity. Mass media and marine environmental education.

Abstracts shall not exceed 250 words, Arial Font 12 pt, and will be elaborated according to the following guidelines:
Title with uppercase letter.

Summary content
Papers accepted for oral presentations will have 15 min for presentation and 5 min for discussions. Those accepted for Poster presentation will dispose of an area of 1.0 m width and 2.0 m high.

The Scientific Committee will notify authors of the acceptance of their papers and the form of presentation, without prejudice to the applicant's participation as delegate.

Inscription prices include:
Delegate: credential, documentation module, participation in the scientific activities, welcoming cocktail, certificate of attendance and/or author.
Companion: credential, participation in the opening and closure activities, welcoming cocktail, visits to the City’s Historical Center and shopping tour.
The Congress inscription fee will be paid directly at Havana's International Conference Center at the moment of registration.
