Please note that from 25 May 2004, the UNESCO Director-General Office circulated the following instructions regarding the naming of “ Sea of Japan”:

“Please be informed that “ Sea of Japan ” is the standard geographical term used by the Secretariat of the United Nations , in its own documents, for the body of water separated from the Pacific Ocean by the Japanese Archipielago and Sakhalin”
