Beach Litter Management

|
A conference on the beautiful north coast of Cornwall, of interest to those who have responsibility for beach management, have an interest in coastal ecology or are involved in promoting coastal tourism. Beaches are a vital part of the local economy for many areas of the UK. The management of beaches in maintaining a high quality image is seen as essential in order to attract visitors. Part of that management involves varying degrees of beach cleaning. But beach cleaning can have an environmental impact in terms of damage to the beach ecosystems, the strand line and sand dunes, and there is an effect on the wider environment as, mainly organic, material is often dumped in scarce landfill sites. This conference will explore these often conflicting issues with contributions from experts in their field from around the country. It will also attempt to find solutions to the differences by promoting a better understanding and encouraging discussion. |
