Description
This is the third annual session of the Rhodes Academy, a
three-week course addressing issues in contemporary oceans law and policy.
The Academy is a collegial undertaking among individuals from the Center for Oceans Law and Policy, the Aegean Institute of the Law of the Sea and Maritime Law, the Max Planck Institute (Heidelberg, Germany), and the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea. Space is limited to 30-35 particpipants. Application required; available from contacts listed above; deadline approx. 15 May 1998 (though there is some inherent flexibility). Target audience in foreign ministry employees or civil servants with interest or responsibilities in oceans affairs; military personnel with related responsibilities; upper level graduate students; and any others with an interest or need (preferably demonstrated) for this type of program. **Please note this is not a maritime law program (e.g., admiralty, shipping, commerce), but rather deals with oceans law and policy, using the 1982 U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea as a foundation for discussion of contemporary oceans issues (fisheries, pollution, jurisdiction, navigation issues, nonliving resources, etc.) Contacts
