IOC associated itself with the OCEAN98 project, a non-profit effort to promote and provide
information and education concerning all aspects of ocean life on Earth to broad
international audiences. The project has a universal appeal because of attributes that
target audiences enjoy, regardless of culture and demographic status. Development of
educational kits, TV/video programmes and CD-ROMS are only a few examples of a wide list
of OCEAN98 activities. |
A
'1998 International Year of the Ocean' educational kit is being prepared. Check out the Classroom to find out more.
The
UNESCO Education Sector and the IOC are jointly planning to conduct two educational
cruises; one for high school students and one for university students (Floating
University). The cruises are to be conducted in the Mediterranean, Baltic and Black Seas
during 1998.

However,
the important role of the UNESCO Education
Sector, UNESCO
Associate Schools Project, UNESCO Project on
Learning without Frontiers, of the Federation of UNESCO Clubs and of
the UNESCO international network - Planet Society, in these educational activities can
scarcely be exaggerated and the IOC is cooperating with them, inter alia, in the
development of the Ocean Education Package and implementing a Beach Clean-up Project. |
