In a few words...
"Our goal is to improve the degraded water quality of the marine waters off the
New Jersey/New York coast. Clean Ocean Action will identify the sources of pollution and
mount an attack on each source by using research, public education, and citizen action to
convince our public officials to enact and enforce measures which will clean up and
protect our ocean."
Beach Sweeps
Clean Ocean Action would like to invite schools, groups and individuals to participate
in the 1998 beach and waterway cleanup being held on April 25th. This
will be the 14th year that Clean Ocean Action has organized beach cleanups and as part of
the "International Year of the Ocean" our goal is to conduct cleanups in every
county in the state and have 10,000 volunteers. Last year, in New Jersey over 4,100
dedicated volunteers collected nearly a quarter of a million items from our beaches. This
year we could use your help in reaching our goal.
A second Beach Sweep will be organized on October 24.
Beach and waterway cleanups give the general public a chance to participate in an event
that not only benefits the environment, but also benefits the community. This opportunity
also gives everyone to make a difference and have their efforts impact the worldwide
problem of non-point source pollution. By participating in a cleanup, you or your group
will gain a better appreciation for the environment and wastefulness of littering.
You, Your school or group can participate in the beach cleanup. Check COA's website for
