Greenland
Greenland Whales III
To commemorate 1998 as International Year of the Ocean, POST Greenland has decided to
include the official IYO logo in our 6 whale stamps and the miniature sheet to be issued
on 5 February 1998. The issue of the 6 whale stamps and the miniature sheet is the final
issue in our popular whale series.
The whale stamps will be issued on 5 February Printing: Offset.
Sheet: 40 stamps per sheet.
Design: Jens Rosing.
Lay-out by Morten Stürup.
A miniature sheet featuring the six whale stamps will also be issued.

Here is the
provisional list of other countries or postal offices who have committed themselves to
issue stamps dedicated to the IYO:
- Finland, Gabon(10/98), Germany, India, Sweden,
Mexico, Iceland, Indonesia, Monaco, Jersey, San Marino, Azores, Madeira, Malta
- The following countries have
initiated actions to the possibility of issuing stamps:
- Bahamas, Costa Rica, Lebanon, Mauritius,
Seychelles, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Tonga
A special UN series is
available.
The
IOC Circular Letter of 12 May, 1997, invited Member States to consider the possibility of
issuing sets of national stamps dedicated to the objectives of the International Year of
the Ocean. The stamp topics included: "Ocean and Climate", "Ocean and
Food", "Ocean and Pollution", "Ocean and Youth", "Ocean and
Technology", "Ocean and Wildlife", "Ocean and Archeology" and
others.
It
is envisaged that the UN philately exhibition will be included in the UN Pavilion. Member
States which issue ocean theme stamps containing the IYO logo are welcome to submit
samples to IOC/UNESCO for the consideration of acceptance. However, there will be a
selective process and not all national stamps will be exhibited. |
