SPECIAL POSTAGE STAMPS

"JOY OF EUROPE"

On the occasion of the World Child Day and in the scope of the issue, Joy of Europe", the Community of Yugoslav PTT issues two special postage stamps using as motifs children’s works - drawings and collages which were exhibited and rewarded at the 34 th Children October Salon 1998, organized by the Museum of Applied Arts.

Museum of Applied arts in Belgrade was founded in 1950. with the purpose to collect, study, keep and exhibit works of applied arts connected to the history of Serbian people. Children October Sake is the demonstration at children’s creativity in the field of applied arts. This Salon has 34 years long reputation and tradition. Children October Salon has contributed to the affirmation of the applied arts in teaching fine arts in schools and kinder gardens.

The Organization of United Nations declared 1998. for the International year of Ocean in honor of this source of life and civilization. Our contribution to this manifestation are children's works dedicated to the ocean and to the protection of the life on our planet.

Children October Salon award jury is composed of museum experts, artists and educators, and the rewarded works become a property of the Museum of Applied Arts and are kept in the Children October Salon collection.
