Shipboard biogeochemical time-series represent one of the most valuable tools scientists have to monitor climate and marine ecosystem changes. IOC established the International Group for Marine Ecological Time Series (IGMETS) to identify changes within different ocean regions, explore plausible reasons and connections at a global level, and to highlight any regions that may be at greater risk. IGMETS is working to improve the coordination and analysis of these shipboard observations in order to provide Member States with a comprehensive, integrated interpretation of global biogeochemical ocean changes. The Group currently involves 10 institutions and coordinates more than 340 ship-based biogeochemical time series around the globe.
